So I just now figured out that a "hen poppa" is referring to popping Hennessy. Still not sure what it means to be "a borderline hen poppa" though. If you find out let me know.
Here's some NO shit for y'all to digest:
The "Triggerman" Beat:
Brown Beat:
Uptown Niggas Living Violently:
Mac Melph Calio
Go DJ
Bonus NO Bounce content:
Magnolia Shorty RIP
This is relevant to my interests.
ReplyDeletePlease give me a run down of this "triggerman" I hear so much about.
Apparently all bounce shit is based off of sampling those two records, both from the mid 80's. I don't know much about these showboys dudes, I guess they were from Queens and bros with RUN DMC but the single only really caught on in the south. Unfortunately a google search of the words "showboys" and "drag" will lead you on a completely different kinda path. Cameron Paul was a DJ from the Bay. I guess Mannie once made the claim that he would "clock six figures/Off 'Brown Beats' and 'Triggers'." As we now know this was to be so. As Mannie so eloquently explains in Big Ballin, if one was to show up with doubles of Drag Rap and a copy of Brown Beat that was all you needed to get shit live uptown.
ReplyDeleteOn side note: I challenge anyone reading this to find a video of a chick at home dancing to a bounce track better than the one above. Seriously, if you find one I want to see it. Post it up.
Amazing post. I feel like that Lastarya video would make R. Crumb's head explode.
